Gout is a serious medical condition which is known as the metabolic arthritis. The main cause of the gout is the congenital disorder of uric acid metabolism. Most of the time gout attack in the joint areas like the feet and ankles and the big toes. However, other joint areas like the knee, the hip, the wrists, the fingers, the elbows and other areas can also be affected. The disease is characterized by the intense inflammation and pain in the affected joint areas. The joint areas become red, swollen and warm. Skin tenderness and a stretching feeling of pain can be felt in the affected areas.

Once you have reported about the problems the doctor will diagnose the appropriate type of gout in the patient’s body. The doctor will make the patient go under certain tests to find out the reason for the excess uric acid. He will find out whether the body is overproducing the uric acid or the body is failing to eliminate the uric acid. The test result will help the doctor to determine the right way of treatment and the ideal medications for the gout patient.

The doctor will then prescribe different medicines to control the pain and the inflammation. He will try to control the uric acid level in the bloodstream. The most popular gout medications are the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs. These medicines will reduce the pain, swelling and the discomfort in the affected areas. These medicines do not help in reducing the uric acid in the blood. This is the reason why the medicines cannot inhibit the comp
lications of the gout.

The problem with the NSAIDs drugs is that they can reduce the gout pain with small does but for reducing or controlling the inflammation they will need to be used in higher doses. Moreover, these medications are not without side effects. Heartburn, bleeding, ulcers, kidney problems can be among the dangerous side effects. Some properties present within the medicines may act with the blood and may thin them. The over the counter medicines like the Aspirin, Advil, Motrin IB and etcetera can be mentioned here. They are comparatively safer medications but these are also not without the side effects. Some other gout medicines like the Naprosyn, Relafen, Indocid, Voltaren, Feldene, and Clinoril can also be mentioned here. But many of these cannot be sold without the prescription of the doctors.

New COX-2 Inhibitors has been released in the markets of US these days. They do not have the compound of blood clotting materials but they have the regular side effects like the NSAIDs. The most common COX-2 Inhibitors medicines are Mobicox, Celebrex and Bextra.

Cortisone is another type of medicine for the gout. The medicine is good for the inflammation problem. The medicine is used via the direct injection into the joint areas. The medicine acts as the natural hormone of the body and fights with the inflammation. This is good for temporary use but long term use can cause serious side effects.

However, there are some medications that can help in reducing the uric acid level in the bloodstream. Anturan, Novopyrazone or the Apo-sulfinpyrazone helps in lowering the level of uric acid in the blood.
