Gout is a serious medical condition which is caused by the congenital disorder of a body’s uric acid metabolism. The disease is also called as the metabolic arthritis. May be you have heard about the disease a lot but if you don’t know anything more about the disease then you can have some basic knowledge about the disease gout and the gout medications to prevent it.

Gout is a painful disease. It is one of the hundred types of arthritis. The serious thing is that this is one of the most frequently recorded diseases in the history of medical world. The main cause of the gout is the accumulation of the uric acid in the body. The uric acid accumulation starts to form the uric acid crystals in the body and they start to be deposited in the joints, tendons and the tissues. In normal case, our body produces the uric acid and eliminates them systematically but if due to some problems there is the excess uric acid accumulation in the body the body cannot eliminate the uric acid and they begin to gather in the body. They form the crystals that begin to be deposited in the joints and tissues causing the intolerable pain. Sometimes the crystals can grow and they can burst through the skin to discharge the white chalky substance.

The most common symptom of the gout is the intolerable joint pains. The skin swelling, redness, warmness and the tenderness are the other common symptoms. Sometimes the affected area can be so tender that even a slight touch of the blanket upon the affected area can cause unbearable pain. The sensitivity of the joints spread into the tissues and the tendons around the joint areas. Proper treatment with right gout medications can only help in relieving the pain.

When the gout medications are concerned, the main focus would be upon the pain management. Reducing the level of uric acid in the bloodstream is part of the long term treatment of the gout. The nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are the most popularly used gout medications. Medicines like indomethacin and glucocorticoids are directly injected into the joints. These are the pain relieving medicines. There are oral medications too. But many of the gout medicines are known for their dangerous side effects. Most of the gout medicines cannot be recommended for long term use. Some gout medicines are Naprosyn, Relafen, Indocid, Voltaren, Feldene, and Clinoril. But long term use of these medicines can cause serious side effects.

One of the gout medicines which is badly known for its dangerous side effects is Colchicine. The medicine has the active compound for relieving the pain and inflammation. Doctors use it for managing the gout pain. But this medicine can cause serious side effects like the acute diarrhea or gastronomical issues. Bleeding through urine, nausea, vomiting can occur after the use of the medicine. Overdose of the medicine can cause serious harm. Overdose can cause even death to the patient too.

As earlier said, most of the gout medicines are not without the side effects. So, it is always advised that gout medications should be taken only after consulting with the doctor. The doctor will check up the patient and will prescribe the right medications for him.
