Have you ever thought about all the men in your life and how many of them wear bifocals or reading glasses? My very first love was my Dad! He was an aircraft mechanic and didn't begin wearing bifocal spectacles until I was in high school. He had 20/20 vision most of his life, so when he begin to have trouble focusing, he was quick to get the help of some reading eyeglasses. My Dad has always been handsome to me: tall, strong and bald with steel blue eyes. During World War II, he was in the military – the Marines and proud of it! Being a veteran, he knew the high cost of freedom and has always had a love and respect for the United States of America.

I remember one time, when both he and Mama were so sick, they couldn't hold their heads up, but they determined they were going to the polls to cast their votes one election day despite the discouragement of their daughters to stay in out of the cold weather! So, with their reading glasses in pocket and purse, they went to vote! He would always say, "I'm only one, but I am one!" By the way, the camouflage readers are very popular right now.

My Dad can fix anything from a broken hair dryer to a washing machine to a beat-up chest of drawers, but he usually needs his "cheaters" to focus. Growing up during the depression, he was keenly aware of the worth of a dollar and could really make it stretch. I recall the story told often about how for an entire year, all that their family had to eat was black-eyed peas! Ugh! He learned how to do without when he had too. When I was in elementary school, Daddy signed up for some night courses at the college. My Dad wore some cool cat-eyed reading glasses while pouring over the books at night. They were inexpensive, but cool!

My second true love was my husband! He has beautiful blue eyes that I love to sit and look at. He, like my Dad, was a 6 year veteran during the Vietnam conflict. He returned home, went to night school to graduate college, he began wearing non prescription reading glasses. Of course, he was good looking in the contemporary readers and especially the ultra light, reading sunglasses. Instead of fixing "things," my hubby fixes computer problems, so he needs several computer glasses with varying magnifying strengths depending upon the job at hand. Hubby is very distinguished looking and contemporary eyeglasses make a fashion statement for him. He is beginning to enjoy the bifocals more now as his arms get shorter. You probably know what I mean.
