Bacterial Vaginosis can affect many women because it is a pretty common condition.

At first, the symptoms can look very similar to those of a yeast infection: Sufferers may experience vaginal discharge and odor, very much like a candida infection.

It is common to experience those symptoms of a bacterial vaginosis and assume it is a yeast infection, and therefore treat the vaginosis like a candida, but there is a big, big difference:

While candida is caused by cultures of yeast, Bacterial Vaginosis is a bacterial infection. BV needs a very different way of treatment! It is of uttermost importance to visit your doctor or physician at the first signs of symptoms. Do not guess, please. Only your doctor can make a clear diagnosis whether we deal with a Candida or Bacterial Vaginosis!

Once we have the right diagnosis we then can actually start treatment.

Causes of Bacterial Vaginosis

It is still not 100% known what exactly causes Bacterial Vaginosis. It is an infection which occurs because of an imbalance of the "good kind" and "bad kind" of bacteria in the vagina. Even a low immune system can trigger an outbreak of bacterial vaginosis. Frequent unprotected sex with a variety of partners can be one reason, another often seen cause of a BV infection is too frequent vaginal douching or using cheap scented soaps or baths.

Even an unhealthy life-style with bad eating habits and excessive alcohol and cigarette use can trigger and cause an increased chance of bacterial vaginosis.

It's important to mention that BV is not a sexually transmitted disease (STD). This has been proven since women who are not sexually active can get is as well.

Treatments for Bacterial Vaginosis

Let's assume the doctor diagnosed Bacterial Vaginosis. In all likelihood he will prescribe antibiotics, like creams or pills. There is something important to note: There is a very high number number of Vaginosis recurrence especially if it is being treated with antibiotics. 50% of all sufferers treated might have recurring BV within some months, this is very common.
The other reason is potential side effects or allergies to antibiotics.

It is also seen quite often that the antibiotics, used for the bacterial vaginosis can cause a yeast infection because they also destroy the "good bacteria" which have a protective role in our bodies. Speak of the "bacterial imbalance"... One temporary relief, but at what cost?

Therefore we do not necessarily recommend antibiotics as the treatment of choice for bacterial vaginosis.

The patient is likely to find herself in a cycle of only one temporary relief to the next - without really attacking the root of the condition! Such could not not be farther away from a "cure".

Bacterial Vaginosis needs to be treated in a holistic way, from within and at the root.

Temporary relief using strong antibiotics and risking other problems on the way is not the way to go.

We only recommend proven and natural methods if you are going to thread your bacterial vaginosis.
